Thoughts of the Day....

-Holly went back to college this weekend.....I'm excited to hear about your year, Holly, but miss you a lot when you are gone!
-I heard about this book today called Marley and Me, it's supposed to be this amazing, cute, true story about a man and his bad lab, I know in the end the dog passes away, as all dogs do, so I don't know if I can read it, I know it's a part of having a dog, letting them go, but I know too I'm going to have so many connections with 'Max and Me'....who would have thought someone could have written our life story :O).....and so many people could connect with a bad lab story! I sure do love that little large boy, who chewed up ANOTHER pair of my dress shoes while I was at church today.....
-Lastly, I just purchased 4 Nascar tickets for the race in November. Sme of the other people don't even know they are for sure going yet ;o).....though they knew I was supposed to be getting them. It may be my first, and last race, unless someone else is buying, but I wanted to see what my brother loves so much about this sport.....at least once, right? It should be interesting....Nicole, are you guys coming down? You know you are welcome here anytime if you need a place.....though the welcoming committee can be a little overwhelming, in November they should be fine with spending most of the day outside :O).

That's the one, but we are just going on Sunday. No pressure, I was just wondering if you guys had planned on going :O). Jason just scheduled his driving school for October 15th. They get to drive the cars from last years racing teams. They sit through a class, then go out on the track with an instructor, the other people (up to twelve) in the class are with them and they can pass each other etc, and then after they drive ten laps, the instructors takes them around at top speed.....I'll keep you posted....sounds....uhhh....interesting?

I think after last year, we decided that to attend another Sunday afternoon/night race that we'd need to take Monday off. (Too hard to drive back home and go to work the next day.) So, we probably won't make it this year.

You'll have to let me know what you think about NASCAR! (At the race, it helps to have headphones and a scanner to listen to the radio/TV commentary or listen to the drivers talking. You can rent them at the track.)
Otherwise, at least for me, you're just watching cars go round and round and round...

:)

You probably already know these next things:
- If you want to buy stuff at the booths outside the track, get there early so that you can take your purchases back to the car before the race starts.
- Make sure to bring ear plugs (or buy them there).
- Most tracks will let you bring in food/drink. You'll just have to read up on how big a bag/cooler you can bring and what items are not allowed.

...and a book to read? ;o). Thanks for the advice....I'm not exactly experienced in this area. Any tips for parking? When I went to the IRL it took HOURS to get out of that lot, if I park near the back of the lot close to the exit, do you think that would help at all?

You can help avoid a lot of the pre-race traffic by arriving early (as in several hours early). It gives you time to browse the booths. Or have a tailgating party in the parking field. (Or read a book...)

And parking farther away from the track will help. Also, parking near a less-used exit works too.

For example, the last time we were there we came in on (and left via) FM 156 (from Hwy 380) through Denton. (You can see where it enters the speedway here: http://www.texasmotorspeedway.com/downloads/TMSinandout040105.pdf )

Still, expect that it will take a while to get out of there. You can view other parking tips here: http://www.texasmotorspeedway.com/visitorinfo.aspx?p=Parking

Regarding the wind - the higher in the stands that you sit (and the better the view), the more wind you'll get. We were sitting up pretty high, and I wasn't prepared for the wind (cold, to me).

You might also consider bringing a seat cushion or something soft to sit on.

You should become a travel agent.....I like it when my friends go places before I do, I learn vicariously through others. Great advice.....Thanks for looking out for me :O)
