Bug Bites

Monday, June 07, 2010

I made these little cake balls as a 'yay school is over' gift for some friends of mine under the age of 8. I used the remnants of some chocolate from misc. projects I've thrown together over the last few months.
I saw this bug cage at the Dollar Tree a few weeks back, and the idea of putting some sort of dessert inside was too much for me to handle. It needed a purpose in my life.

Obviously, it needed bugs, but I think bugs should really considering being cuter. We'd get along better. So, I decided to make cake balls (it was that or mini cupcakes, and....I like to mix things up a bit ;o)).
I only made six cake balls for this (only 4 would fit in the cage). I call these 'vintage' b/c they are a little rustic. It's hard to perfect a technique on one bug, as opposed to a series. At least, that's the excuse I'm using today.

A bee, a fly, a lady bug, and a new green bug, discovered in the amazon that is my kitchen. You could definitely add some fun antennas, or wings, but...I'll leave that to someone else.

Here they are are in captivity.

I added a tag about not letting summer 'fly' by....it was that, or don't 'bug' your mother....she probably would have appreciated choice B....
