My favorite thing is to find new, fun things to do in my hometown. My favorite thing is also to do traditional outings in and around my city. My favorite thing is to get out of town and find....OK....you get the point.
Anyway....I've stumbled into a few fun things in, around, and by the water over this last week.
A week+ ago I headed down to the Fairmont in downtown Dallas for their weekly, summertime "Dive in Movie.' I read about it in the weekend guide, and it's totally free, and totally fun.
You park, bring your suit, sit on their pool Terrace overlooking the city, in their great pillowed lounge chairs....

They provided floats, fun noodles, and towels (bring your own, they ran out), bar, and food service (next time I'd probably bring my own little stash as well), chairs, a great view of the city below, a really great sound system, and a PG-13 (or less) rated movie.

Their pool is as big as a legal lap lane, wide, deep at one end, and there are two wading areas for little ones. It was gr-ea-t. I hope to get back before the summer is over. They show a movie every Friday the weather permits the technology, and you can call on Friday morning to find out what the movie will be featured that evening.
The next afternoon I headed out to Lake Ray Harbor near the Hilton Hotel.

My friend Yolanda was 'sail'abrating a birthday (ha ha, she doesn't know I'm saying that, but I'm sure she'd appreciate it, after maybe rolling her eyes).

We set sail on this really neat sailboat built two years ago by the captain and his wife of 37 years.

It's an hour and a half cruise around the lake for 25 dollars a person. There is a stop for a hop in the water...

They have an area on the boat for sunning on some cushioned mats, and lots of bench seating in the shade. You can rent it out privately, or book one of their general cruising times with whoever else has the same idea. They provide iced, bottled water, but you can also bring your own food and drink. I'm definitely heading back out here sometime soon. I love boating, and would love to buy a boat if it weren't for the fact that I'm home all of maybe two weekends during the summer months! :O)
