Breast Cancer Awareness: Christmas Wreath

Sunday, October 03, 2010
Five years ago, my Mom began her journey through breast cancer diagnosis, I bought a little tree, and filled it with pink and white ornaments the first Christmas after her diagnosis.  Her favorite color is pink, but it has a double meaning after two (successful :O)) battles with breast cancer, 5+ surgeries, and all the treatment that comes along with a diagnosis.  This month, with Breast Cancer awareness in full swing,  I decided to make her a Christmas wreath to go with her tree.  I had a little vintage Santa and children ornament I placed in the middle, I grabbed a slew of flowers in various whites and pinks at the craft store, and this little wicker wreath from the Dollar Tree.
My favorite flower is the pink one with the fun 'stuff' in the middle (it's actually a hair piece from Hobby Lobby), and I also made some inked edge magazine page flowers (these came from the pill 'warning' pages filled with black ink, somehow appropriate).  I sewed some pearls and beads in the middle for a little color and texture.
I plucked a few of the flower centers out and replaced them with scrapbook paper, rhinestones and buttons and added some little pink balls, sheer ribbon bits, and a little glue.  Sure, it's early for Christmas, but it's never too early to celebrate a happy ending to an awful diagnosis.
