Valentine's Day Bubbles With A Homemade Heart Wand

Monday, January 17, 2011
I saw an idea here for making a star wand with homemade bubbles, and I decided to adapt it to a heart wand for Valentine's Day gifts.  It was actually MUCH easier than I anticipated.  The hardest part of the whole deal was finding a bag of heart charms I could live with.  The charm, the most necessary part to the bubble wand, right?
RIGHT?
Anyway....here are the supplies I ended up using for the wand.
I got the thickest gage flower wire I could find at the craft store, so these would be sturdy enough for little friends.  I made a loop at the top, and twisted it around the wire, and then bent the circle into the heart shape.  I then took the end, added the charm, and then curled it up.  Here's a littledoodling for you....free of charge.
The only time I needed the needle nose thingies and the flat pliers things was at the VERY tip of the wire to bend that last little millimeter....and that's because I'm a wuss.  I think I could have done this  against the edge of a table, but I bought those weird little tools years ago at a store going out of business, and I was just so excited to justify my purchase....I used them.  Oh, and I didn't feel like getting up.  It's cold, I sit under blankets at all time with a chihuahua, and for his health and well being, I don't like to move our warm cocoon.
As for the bubbles, there were a bunch of links on the original site, but the recipe I used didn't have a working link to attach to (just the recipe), but it's there if you can make it work....good job.  This is the recipe I used:  1/2 c. dish soap (Dawn or Joy), 2 c. water, 2 t. sugar.  I also added one drop of food coloring to make my bubbles pink.
I could definitely glam up this bubble jar a little more (a left over salsa jar), but that's what February is for!
