July 4th: Patriotic Tea Towels

Wednesday, June 15, 2011
Years ago I pulled a picture of some tea towels from a home and garden magazine.  One had Washington's silhouette, the other two cherries.  I decided to use the same idea, and put these together so I had some July 4th festivities ready to roll in my kitchen.
I printed off the size pictures I needed, and grabbed some freezer paper.
I traced the pictures on the freezer paper, (I did it against a window so it would be easy to see the outline.  I cut out the middle of the pictures, and then ironed them to my fabric where I wanted the photo to go.  I've used this process for freezer paper transfers for bags in the past.
I mixed up the color paint I wanted with a little textile paint (dry, and iron and it's supposed to stay on fabric long term when you add this).
The freezer paper peels right off, and then I just added some scrap materials and rick rack.  I'll use any excuse I can find to add rick rack to a project.  I wonder how George would feel about hanging from my oven?
