Cupcakes: Fizz Ball Bath Cupcakes

 I've dig fizz balls...no reason, I just think they are fun!  I saw cupcake shaped fizz balls last year in New Orleans at a boutique, and I went home and googled it....guess what?  It's another do it yourself-er!  Unlike most of my projects, there are a few strange products, but you can order them online, worst case scenario. 
Bathing in cupcakes....does life get any more decadent? 
Fizz Cupcake Ingredients:  1 part citric acid (you can order a bucket that makes 24+ cupcakes from Majestic Mountain Sage), 2 parts baking soda (I used two boxes to make 12 cupcakes, and adjusted all the products around this), Bentonite Clay (I bought this at a whole foods store, and I added about 1/4 cup to the 2 c. of baking soda, it makes the form harder), 5 drops of scent (I bought some vanilla from the craft store), Witch Hazel (from the drug store).
Fizz Cupcake Instructions:  Mix all ingredients except for the Witch Hazel.
Spritz on Witch Hazel, don't pour too much on at once or it will cause the ingredients to grow really quickly.  Mix until the ingredients are coarse, like you are making pie dough and the ingredients are just sticking together. 
You can buy the ball forms, or use the plastic Christmas ornaments with two sides that pop together, or you can use cupcake liners and a cupcake pan.  I overdid it on the Witch Hazel. 
I had to push down the materials until it stopped growing, and fill it with more product.  You can skip this step if you don't get overzealous with the Witch Hazel and just pack int the course material. 
I let these dry overnight until they were really hard. 
I used a serrated knife to carve off the imperfect edges. 
Fizz Cupcake Icing Ingredients:  I doubled this recipe to make really high peaks on my cupcakes, but one badge would do. 
3 T. meringue powder (I bought this in the cake decorating section), 1 lb. (4 c. powdered sugar), 5
T. warm water, 1/4 t. Cream of Tartar, a few drops of scent if desired, or color. 
Fizz Cupcake Icing Instructions:  Mix together the warm water and meringue.  Add cream of tartar, and powdered sugar.  Whip for 4 minutes. 
I added the icing to a bag, cut off one corner, and piped up a decorative cupcake. 
I let these dry overnight, and they were rock hard the next day.  You could add sprinkles before they dried, sprinkles never hurt bathing festivities. 
Ready for shipping, and slipping into a tub.
