Swiss Beer Bread

Oktober Fest is looming.  Other than the occasional pretzel, I'm not much of a participant.  The only thing I like about beer is that it make a mighty fine bread.  In fact, I'm lost when it comes to buying beer, and anytime a recipe calls for I usually stand in a convenience store looking for one can to purchase....all this to say, you probably shouldn't send me out on a beer run.  BUT, you should try this beer.  It really is good, and....unlike a lot of breads, the beer does all the work...none of that yeast+hot water funny business, and certainly no kneeding.  I'm all about the lazy mans recipes.  I found this one via Taste of Home.
Swiss Beer Bread Recipe
Ingredients:  4 oz swiss cheese, 3 c. all-purpose flour, 2 T. sugar, 3 t. baking powder, 1 1/2 t. salt, 1/2 t. pepper, 12 oz. bottle of beer, 2 T. melted butter
Instructions:  Mix all the dry ingredients, except for the cheese.  Cut half of the cheese into 1/4 inch cubes, shred the other half.  Add the bear to mix until everything is just wet.  Fold it all the cheese.  Place in a greased 8x4 inch pan.  Drizzle the 2 T. of melted butter over the bread and bake for 50 minutes at 375 degrees.

  2. I have a similar beer bread recipe - mine calls for a ton of butter. Half you pour (melted) on top, and the other half you pour on top about 20 minutes before it is done baking...amazing...I want to say a half cup total, but maybe its just a quarter cup...either way - throw on another 2T melted butter 20 mins before you are done and see if it takes this recipe to the next level!!
