Personalize Thanksgiving Place Mats

Friday, November 15, 2013
I have a bunch of burlap.  I'll give you a moment to get over the shock of this statement.  Not.  This year I'm making these place mates for my table.  Super easy, and fun.  Now...I just need to come up with five more words that come to mind each Thanksgiving.
I cut the words out on freezer paper b/c the glossy side will stick temporarily to fabric if you iron it in place...
I ironed it on the fabric, glossy side down...
Then I used black paint and a dabber to dab the black paint on.  When I've used foam brushes in the past it can sometimes push under the fabric and not make it as concise.
When you are done the freezer paper peels right off.
Instead of sewing the edges I used this no fray that I bought at a craft store, it keeps the thread from fraying...hence the name.  Go figure.

Love this! What type paint do you use?

I used acrylic, but any kind should work since it's not going to touch food. If you are going to want to wash it, there is a paint you can add called textile medium. Mix it with whatever color you are using. When it dries, iron it, and it should be set. :O)
