Pom Pom Fall Wreath

Wednesday, August 22, 2018 1 comment
I recently made this wreath for my friend.  I have about 17 million extra wreaths at my house, so when I was thinking about making some fall décor, I called up my pal Kelly and asked her if she would use this on her door.  I've been really into pom poms lately, so....which not make a million of them, tie them to a wire wreath, and call it a project?  When we chatted, she mentioned interchangeable decorations, and so I made some vintage cats and leaves and added clothes pins to the back so they can be attached....
It really was a super easy project, it just took some time to make all those pom poms, but....that's what tv is for, right?  I wrapped and vegged.  I used this brand and a color called burnt pumpkin.  It did end up taking two rolls of it.  I bought it at Hobby Lobby (not sure if they sell it everywhere, but....just to save on searching).
I just used some super cheap felt and cut out some leaf shapes and cats and added some decorations.  I hot glued the clothes pins and then put an extra square of felt across the back to secure them further.
I really think I'm going to make a few more of these for different seasons b/c I'm a fan!

Leaf Candles

I've been slightly obsessed with coppers and golds this season....this is a super easy craft using my newest favorite colors.
I cut out a leaf on scrap vinyl with my cricut (though you could do this by just tracing a pattern you print online trace/cut on contact paper.)
I sprayed the jar and when it dried I pulled the sticker off and the perfect silhouette was left behind.  I'm adding these to my decor this fall and putting candles inside.  Now....I need to go empty out some pickle jars and pasta jars to vary the size a bit.

Glitter Glam Leaves

Here's a really simple fall diy=glitter leaves.  I just used the glitter I had on hand, and the light available in the evening, but they really are pretty in person.  These will be going into a fall centerpiece....just as soon as I clean off my dining table.  So....November maybe.
I bought this bag of leaves at Michael's, but I've also seen them at the dollar tree.  It doesn't really matter what color they are b/c you are going to cover them up, but I liked that they didn't have bulky plastic 'veins'.  I painted them with mod podge and then went to town with my glitter.  I shook off the excess and let it dry.  If you don't like glitter to 'shed' through the years, you can add another layer of mod podge over the dried glitter leaf, but it does dull it just a bit-it will go on white, but dry clear.  I'm used to glitter, so....glitter shed it shall be.

Leaf Crafts

I head to Good Morning, Texas in the morning with leaves.  I've been out of the blogging loop for a few days, which is NOT like me, but...I have a very good reason.  I had guest from Brazil.  It was really fun to show friends Dallas....no-Texas, wait...America!  I took them lots of important places like Walmart and Chickfila.  They flew out today...and this means....I was frantically shopping at Hobby Lobby for my supplies after work.  Here are a few finished project, a few projects in the work, and then...I'm off to start the last little bit.  If all goes well you can see the whole shabang on GMT tomorrow.  I'll post the video after on facebook.
In no particular order-I painted some leaves and stamped tags for gifts.  I used fake leaves from the dollar tree because it's September...and it was 100 degrees this weekend...and then it rained today, so all the real (green) ones are wet.  The point is....any leaf stamp makes a cute stamp.
Next up, I took a bag of fake leaves from the dollar tree.  I dipped them in mod podge and then pressed them to the side of a jar and let it dry (original idea from Dan).  Again, you should be able to do this with real leaves in a month or so, decoupage glue helps preserve leaf colors....these would be cut table decor.
I have a few more projects, but here's one in the works....some leave 'paintings.'  I love the idea of taking some foilage from places you travel too.  paint a canvas whatever color you want.
Use a spray adhesive to stick the leaves down to the dried paint, then spray a second color over the top.  Peel leaves off when dried.
Finished projects will be on display in the morning.

Gold Leaf Name Tags

I saw this awhile ago on search to understand food and stored in in my memory bank.  This year I'm all about gold for Thanksgiving.  So...it was time to pull out this simple little table nap tag idea.  You can do this with real leaves...or....I found a 'stem' of fake leaves at the dollar store.
I sprayed my leaves down with gold spray and then used a permanant marker to write the names of my guest.  Warning...more gold to follow.

Halloween-Candy Corn: Candy Corn Fondant Leaves

Saturday, October 16, 2010 9 comments

I saw this idea for turning 'left over' candy corn into fondant here.  I never actually met a left over candy corn, but I was willing to buy a package for this experiment.
I popped the whites off my candy corns.
The whites are now in a better place.
I broke up the oranges and yellows.
Next up, squishing.  The warmth of your hands and a little pressure should quickly form a 'fondant ball.'  Too bad the same can't be said for coal, a little pressure, and diamonds.
I covered both sides with wax paper, and rolled out my candy corn fondant with a rolling pin.
I cut out some little leaves with small (pie leaf) cookie cutters.  I pealed the excess away before removing the cookie cutters.  It's a little sticky, thus, peeling around the cookie cutter kept the shape true to form.
These little leaves would have been super cute on a cupcake, but they disappeared far too quickly.  I'll get a detective on the job.  In the meantime, I'm loving candy corn fondant!
