Pin It Button....Finally

Thursday, February 28, 2013 1 comment
Man....I am not a fan of computers, codes, typing, or reading directions.  BUT...it was time.  I FINALLY added a pinterest button to the bottom of my post...mostly b/c I do like reading 'stuff' on computers and pinterest.   I promise to slowly work on adding some new fandagled gidgets and gadgets to my blog.  I might even start editing some of my post....but don't hold your breath.  If you too just came in from watching the dinosaurs play in your backyard-here is a super simple tutorial  for adding the Pin It button to post from pocketfullofposies.  If I can do it....your dog can do it.  In other news,  IBM, Mac, Apple, and any other computer company that has or ever will exist....all your jobs are safe from me.
P.s. I DID IT!  I added media buttons too.  I don't even know who I am anymore....and I don't even remember how I did it, but I used this tutorial from beautiful dawn. I found the buttons for free here. There are a lot of super cute free buttons out there in the world, but since I may  never.  Ever.  Ever.  Change them...I went with some basic colors.
P.p.s.  I guess maybe I should start using those media buttons.  I've been working on some pinterest boards...if you count logging in twice as working on it (but really, it's my short term goal)...but I will start putting some of my theme/week post onto boards.  My friend, Jo, created a facebook page for me awhile back where I throw TV appearances up.  She knows me well b/c there would be no facebook link without her support, but I do actually post the show clips since she did all the work for me.  Next up...twitter...not sure what to do with that-but I have an account.  It got hacked, so my only tweet so far is "All those other tweets weren't me.'  I'm pretty sure my tweets will change lives.

Where Friendships Begin...and Blog "Stuff"

Sunday, January 16, 2011 8 comments
First...a story:
So....I was at an antique store this past Saturday, and I was standing in a line waiting to check out.  There were two ladies in front of me, and both were totting little girls about the same age (3-ish).  One little girl turned around and looked at the (then stranger) second girl, looked down at her green frog rain boots and the following conversation occured.
Girl #1:  I like your boots
Green Boot Girl #2:  Do you pick your nose?
Girl #1:  Yes.
Green Boot Girl #2: Me too.
...and that was it.
It...cracked...me...up.
Ahh....to be three.
I'm going to call my best friend right now because after all the conversations we've had in our friendship (and we've had some strange ones), this isn't one of them, but....I am grateful to have a friend I could have this conversation with day one, or day 9,125.
In other news....I finally changed my blog header, and I'm going to TRY to remember how I did it so I can do it before another 6 months goes by (which is why I never changed it after my initial header...I forgot how I learned, or where I got instructions-I googled it again, and found these instructions....I had to include the link A)  Because I should, but B)  I'll forget again, it's part of my charm).
I also created a signature using this great tutorial from Sassy Sites, for no reason...just because.
I'm off to organize my sock draw, revamp my blog side bars, clean my baseboards, and polish my dog's toe nails....or not.

Top Ten from 2010

Friday, December 31, 2010 4 comments
I've seen the 'top ten' post over the net the last few days, and I loved reading them, so here I go...
These were (some of) my top 10 favorite (craft related) post from 2010.  Some were influenced by the number of responses, some I just loved for personal reasons.  In no particular order, because 'orderly things' really aren't for me....
1.  Mini Caramel Apples

Is there anything better than mini and sticks?  I think not.
2.  Cinnamon Buns On-A-Stick
I love things on sticks so much I had to create a label for this line of post.  I'm planning a week of 'stick' related projects next year.  That's the plan at least, assuming the guys with the straight jacket can't catch me.
3.  Cowgirl Baby Shower

I thought about throwing my Twilight Party up, but I decided this was probably sweeter b/c it's for Alexis' Mom, and in the end, they trump Edward any day of the week.  I'm planning a few more parties this year as well....both Twilight and baby themed.  You'll be glad to know they won't be overlapping.
4.  Cake in a Jar
This an idea I've adapted quite a few times after running across the instructions on the net.  I'll be throwing a week of jars up at some point too, but I can't promise it'll be next year....I mean, a week with sticks will take awhile to recover from.

I heart this tablecloth of Mary's, and I want a time machine so bad.  Michael J. Fox and I would head back 30 some years in my life, and we'd rig one of these up so I could run my fingers along my family's signatures.
6.  A Week Of...
I've started the 'week of' this year, and I really like blogging in themes.  It takes some planning ahead.  I don't actually sit down and make 9 gingerbread projects in one week, but it's fun to throw them up all together.  I have some already planned or finished from past projects I didn't post in the past.  From Valentine's Day, to Mardi Gras, and I've already got a line of Christmas gifts set to post that I didn't throw up this year b/c I had not given the gift yet.  I guess I'm planning on staying around for awhile longer, and blogging, from time to time, in themes.
After seeing this idea on the net (all my sources, as always are linked to the original post), I made a few versions of this over the last year for cute kiddos I know....I have one more hula hoop, and sheet set ready for 2011.
I love my dogs, the slew of dog related treats I make probably make that obvious, the 4 hours I spend discussing them with anyone who will listen cements that.
Yum
10.  Cupcakes
Cupcakes never get old.  I'm planning a week of non cake related cupcakes this year too.  And then I'm planning on starting a support group.  I'll serve cupcakes at all our meetings.  I'm not really good at support groups, but I'm pretty good at serving cupcakes.

Adding "You Might Also Like" Feature to a Blog

Thursday, July 29, 2010 1 comment
I try to keep up with blogs, and I'm always adding new blogs that I find and love to the list I follow.  When I start following someone, I usually start exploring their blog, but depending on how long they've blogged, sometimes it's impossible find all their fun post.  I've seen this great little feature at the bottom of several of people's blog post, and I love them b/c they hint at past post I may have missed for one reason or another.  I finally googled how to do this, and it was much easier than I thought when I put it off over...and over again.
If *you* (as usual *you*=me in the future) want to add these fun little teasers to past post on your blog, go to http://www.linkwithin.com/ and follow the instructions.  There are about two that involve hitting something like 'allow' and 'save.'  Now, I'm going to solve another one of the 'world's problems.'  And when I say 'the world's problems'....I mean the dust currently residing in my living room.

Backing Up My Blog

Sunday, July 25, 2010 3 comments
This post is completely for me so it will be easy for me to access. I didn't even know you CAN save a blog. I followed the steps below, it seems to be a lot of computer gibberish, and I don't see the pictures, but I figure a smart enough person can figure it out if I ever do accidently delete my blog.....so....I'm going to start backing up my blog regularly. This is the process I used for saving my blog via blogger.

13 Reasons I Will Not Be Attending a 12-Step Program

Monday, June 21, 2010 5 comments
I was invited to join the Cupcake Carnival this week over at Attempting Creative. Below is my 'story' you will find on the site in a few days, so you get a sneak peak, but head on over for more cupcake fun in the meantime. ;o)
Hello, My name is Christy, and I’m a cupcake-a-holic.
Admitting I have a problem is as far as I’m going to go in the 12 step process. I have no interest in the other 11, and I have 13 cupcake links from my blog …from glitter to gumdrops to justify my unwillingness to be a part of any 12-step cupcake addiction program (do you sense denial?!?).
I wish I could tell you it was difficult to find 13 links to share….the only difficult part was weeding through all my cupcake adventures.
I WISH I could tell you I don’t have more than 13 cupcake ideas written down I plan to try…this month.
I wish I could tell you I have an amazing metabolism, and I run marathons. :insert hysterical laughing here:
How about I just tell you the thirteen excuses....I mean reasons I have for loving cupcakes more than dieting?!?!
*Links are attached to each number for recipes, step-by-steps, and sources I gathered ideas from for each post.
1. I love cupcakes, because even insects look cute buzzing around these little beast...I wish I could say the same about my hips and cupcakes!

LEMON HONEY CUPCAKES
2. I love cupcakes because they can improve the un-improvable...I didn't know I could love anything more than a Samoa cookie...until I discovered this....

SAMOA COOKIE CUPCAKE
3. I love cupcakes b/c they come in all sizes....from mini to GIANT....

CUPCAKE CAKE
4. I love cupcakes b/c you can wear them....I make dresses, and Jon-Jons for all my friend's kiddos on their first birthday...to match their cupcake cake (above).

CUPCAKE DRESS
5. I love cupcakes because you don't have to confine them to the dessert menu.

PIMENTO CHEESE CUPCAKES
6. I love cupcakes because you don't have to confine them to the HUMAN race!

PUPCAKE: A CUPCAKE FOR THE PUP
7. I love cupcakes b/c they can wear disguises.

TV DINNER CUPCAKES
8. I love cupcakes because you can disguise them as a drink.

MARGARITA CUPCAKE
9. I love cupcakes b/c you can disguise them as pie.

APPLE PIE CUPCAKE
10. I love cupcakes because when you give up candy for lent, you can make a candy cupcake....maybe I shouldn't be confessing that here....maybe I need to go to church a little earlier this Sunday and think about this a little further....

PEANUT BUTTER CUP CUPCAKE
11. I love cupcakes because you can serve them in jars...and I love jars almost as much as I love cupcakes...

CUPCAKE IN A JAR
12. I love cupcakes because you can link them with the second best dessert ever...the cookie.

COOKIE MONSTER CUPCAKES
13. I love cupcakes because they helped me fulfill my Mom's prediction for my life....I think she always suspected I'd run away and join a traveling carnival someday.
cupcakes
Thanks, Kimberly, for letting me hang out with other carnies, and cupcake addicts! I guess this post makes me an enabler, but what a fun addiction to pursue…and nobody gets hurt….assuming you stay away from the scale, right?

Is it Christmas?

Look what I won from Yesterday on Tuesday?

...but wait....it gets better! Waaaaaaaay better!

I was sooooo excited. I heart this book, from the mama of all bloggers! I puffy heart it!
I actually visited the Yesterday on Tuesday blog (and have continued to do so) because she has a truly precious blog, with fun ideas, and while I was hanging out on the blog, I saw she had this giveaway going on, so I entered.
...and then....I won!
I didn't even realize I won when I saw my name....I blame my Mom for naming me 'Christy'....I'm so used to ignoring it when I see or hear it b/c 99.9 precent of the time it's someone else!
I'm so glad it wasn't this time! Yay!
And can we just pause for a minute and note the details of the packaging?!?! I love that it had a pink ribbon, a sweet little tag, and her business card is too stinkin' cute. I'm a girl that appreciates the details.
I'd tell you visit Yesterday on Tuesday's blog b/c it's precious, but in addition to that, she is always having great giveaways you can enter, just another little blogging perk!!!

Three Column Blog

Friday, March 12, 2010 No comments
This week....I became a code writer. I have nerd envy and I've always wanted to be smart enough to WANT to do stuff like this. One of my favorite people, Kristina H, childhood friend, life long buddy-writes computer codes...or something. She also lives in Austin, rides a bike for fun, speaks German, and Japanese, has delved into the world of gourmet cooking along with other healthy crud, and was the gal the guys wanted to date in high school b/c she had a serious mysterious quality other gals didn't. I believe the word we were looking for at the time was 'maturity.' She's pretty much one of the coolest people you'll ever meet....and she writes computer codes....or something. Whatever...I have a blog. I can write your name on a grain of rice....and I can write some seriously bad poetry....and this week...I wrote a computer code. Fine, I didn't-I copied the below tutorial and made my blog three columns, but I had to mess with codes. WHAT is the third column for on this blog? That's going to be for all my imaginary friends. Just wait 'til you meet some of them. Real friends, you have some serious competition. It's a battle of the dueling columns. Uhh...can you fight a battle if one side is uninterested in competing, the other side is unaware of the battle, the blog, and the desire to want to compete? You can in my imaginary world. ;o) And if you have a blog and you want to make a third column for your imaginary friends....or slightly more important stuff....here is where I found my tutorial.
http://www.threecolumnblogger.com/2008/09/three-column-minima-layout-version.html
As for that empty third column....it's going to be a few weeks....I'm 'up to something' but I have some other stuff to take care of first like travel, friends, a shower, work....and a self-diagnosed case of ADHD to solve.

Beautiful Blogs....Pass It On!

Tuesday, March 02, 2010 3 comments

My Heart With Pleasures Filled has granted myself and fourteen (OK, she made it to 11, but I appreciate someone leaving her options open) others a "Beautiful Blog Award". I have to pass this on to fifteen other bloggers, and then tell you seven things you may not know about me (...I should have listened to my Mom when she said the world didn't need to know about every detail of my life, I should have held AT LEAST 7 details back!). And then...it's your turn to do the same!

MY Top 15 Beautiful Blogs, in no particular order:
(Basically, my top 15 favorite blogs at the moment.)
1. Jo's Blog-In school, everyone wanted to be Jo's friend-she was just 'that girl' we all liked because she was kind, and quirky, talented, and very real. I think her journey these last 10+ years has made her realize that special person we've always seen, and now she's passing it on to her 3 kids, and her husband (who is souly responsible for the fact that I will not eat Bologna), and she blogs about her life as an ever growing Christian, a real mom, a homeschooler, an army wife, a crafter, and organic lover. She's still kind, and quirky, talented, and very real.
2. Ella's Blog-It's private, but let me just say-she's the Mom of 4 boys, and the wife of a newly ordained minister. She blogs about her life with the boys, and isn't afraid to share the blood, guts, and glory of motherhood in a world of Y chromosomes.
3. One Pretty Thing-It's crafts....on crack. They have no idea I exist, but I look at this site daily....sometimes twice a day.
4. Bakerella-She puts lots of desserts on sticks. She's been on Martha Stewart. I think that about covers all the requirements to be a fabulous blog.
5. Nicole's Blog-Nicole is the friend you all want. She's thoughtful, and giving, a great listener, and very detail oriented. She doesn't blog a lot, but when she does she gives the kind of descriptions I LOVE. Check out some of her travel stuff, she'll give you all the travel details down to her breakfast menu, and the links that go with it.
6. Whimsy Love-I accidentally found this site-which is the best way to get hooked on a site. This gal is cool and off beat, in the right way. She makes really creative, affordable crafts, and just moved to a small town with her husband (who recently began pastoring a church), and two kids. She takes the most interesting photographs.
7. Penny's Blog--I talked to Penny for the first time when I was a teenager and decided I wanted to find out a little bit about my Dad's family (he passed away when I was very young, and his closest relatives had preceded him). She blogs in spurts as she pursues writing. She's very witty. I always look forward to new stories.
8. Maurine's Blog-This is basically an open journal she's writing to her little boy at this point, and it makes me feel closer to the situation even from a distance! She also keeps family, and friends posted on the latest Florida happenings, and travel updates!
9. The Decorated Cookie--I love making iced sugar cookies. I love eating them more, but this gal has a ton of really clever ideas for this venture.
10. The Crafty Crow-This is a site for homeschoolers, sorta. Jo introduced me to it. SUCH clever ideas for all the holidays, with an emphasis on curriculum...if you are into that sort of thing. I'm into that sort of thing.
11. Heidi's Blog-When I read Heidi's blog, I hear her 'voice.' She writes like she lives life, which is upbeat.
12. Amy Atlas' Blog-She does parties. I have no idea who she 'really is,' but I'd like to have her host a party for me, and in the meantime, I want to host a party just like she does.
13. Homemaking Fun-Cute ideas for holidays, parties, and everything in between.
14. My Heart With Pleasures Blog-I'm giving it back, though I don't expect her to find another 15...I'm sorry, I have to, it's true...she's new to the world of blogging. I love it b/c she has a 'blooming' flower business, and she also can take 'that item' in your house that you'd normally toss, and turn it into something beautiful. So clever. The only problem is....I'm not going to be willing to get rid of anything now in anticipation that she might share an idea I can apply to the 'recycled' pieces hanging around.
15. Party Perfect-I love this blog b/c they let you interact with ideas.

Here are the 7 things you may not know...
1. I began blogging years ago when a bunch of 'stuff' was going on, and I lost track of who I told what to, and found my friends and I were missing huge chunks of our lives. A group of us started blogs. Over the years...some of my friends have quit, or slowed down, which also means they don't visit blogs. I was so lonely out here in blogland, but it's my therapy, and I didn't want to stop. I realized I needed a new direction 'for me.' I stopped writing to inform, and now I'm writing to express....and there is an inner me that drinks too much caffeine that comes out. I feel like blogs are so personal, and it's a choice if you look, so it's more special when friends take the time to read it, or comment! And it's just theraputic.
2. I have imaginary blogging friends, that could never have imagined I existed. I'm revamping my blog, and I'm adding my 'imaginary friends' and then I'm commenting on their blogs. I'm going to let them know, that I know that they are there, and that I follow their blogs, and love their blogs, and am inspired by their blogs, and that they are the reason I'm 10 pounds heavier, 10 dollars poorer, but 10 times happier seeing the wonderfulness the world has to offer.
3. I want to learn to make delicious macaroni, flavorful tamales, and chocolate cake that will make your toes curl. I keep trying, I'm not there yet. I also want to live in a world where calories don't count, and exercise is something you do just because it 'feels good' and not because their are health benefits. I would encourage people that wanted to exercise and feel good...from my couch...eating my macaronni.
4. I fear planes, bridges, whales, and disappointing people.
5. If I get 4 hours a sleep a day, I'm doing good, and I'm feeling great. I have never wanted to get a lot of sleep. When I was little it cut too deeply into my playtime. When I got older....it cut too deeply into my playtime, so I just don't do it.
6. I'd rather do just about anything than act, or dress up in a costume....please just add these to #4....I have never been a fan, but I'll be happy to sew you a costume, or take a video of YOU acting. Just DON'T MAKE ME DO IT...please.
7. I used to be a 'sandwich artist.' I have mad bread braiding skills. I can also write your name on a small grain of rice-this is important somewhere....watch out world, I'm almost ready to take over.

Originality...or Lack There Of

Saturday, February 13, 2010 No comments
When I was little, I used to have a 'secret' way of cooling off on hot summer evenings. I'd lay in my bed until I couldn't stand the heat any longer, and then I'd flip the pillow over. I was refreshed, because I had discovered that no matter how hot the rest of the covers, blankets, comforter, and top of the pillow were, there was a secret cool side of the pillow just waiting until I was ready to be rejuvenated. I thought I was so smart to have discovered this, and I guess it's pretty obnoxious to think that I never shared this 'secret' with anyone else. BUT THEN, I remember standing in school one day and looking at poster advertising an upcoming party, and the poster maker had written: "It's going to be as cool as the other side of the pillow." I was shocked to discover that other people had discovered this, in fact, enough other people that there is apparently even a saying referring to my secret! I thought I was going to patent this discovery! This summer, we were discussing ideas at work, and the head of the LA department mentioned that even if you have a clever idea, someone has already had that idea at some point in the history of life! Perhaps this was said to keep us humble? Whatever, I'm fine with that-and I openly admit to loving, and 'lifting' ideas from other blogs-though I want to believe I always site those sources! It's perhaps a little bit of a pet peeve of mine to give credit where credit is due!

Physics, Philosophy, and Other Pathetic Ponderings....

Wednesday, February 10, 2010 No comments
Question: If a tree falls in the forest, and nobody is around to hear it, does it still make a sound?
Answer: No, because there is nothing for the sound waves to reverberate off of, so...
Question: If a blog post lands on the internet, and nobody is around to read it, has it really been written?
Answer: If we go with the same theory-no, because nobody is around to process the light connecting to form the letters into the words that are written.
Well, that's depressing! I never liked the study of sound or light waves anyway...
I'm a blog reading fool....I...can't....stop...reading. Unfortunately, a lot of my friends aren't posting much anymore, so I'm off to find some new friends, and then our post will exhist again!
P.s. Please post more entries!
