One of my friends had a birthday a few weeks ago, and I went through my files of crafts (which resides in my head) to decide what I wanted to make for her. I married two prior crafts, with a little change.
I started with my basic gift building block for the year...an apron. Each friend is getting a gift with the apron to make it unique (to me). The life altering, non-award winning instructions for all the wrong ways to make this apron are here.
As it usually goes, I went to the fabric store intending to make a purple apron (her favorite color), but for some reason, THESE red colors were screaming her name. I can't explain it b/c I doubt it's what she would have picked out, but it's what I picked out for her after walking through the aisles and buying about 12 other fabric cuts I don't need, but will use as soon as I make up a reason for needing them. I was trying to decide what to make to go along with this apron, and then I remembered an idea I had a few months ago that went with the apron well.
I made a magnetic frame a few months ago, all the instructions are here. I had enough pieces left to make a few more projects out of the wood and magnetic sheet I had purchased. While I was on vacation in June, I saw a recipe board that was magnetic, and I thought that would be a fun way to adapt the frame idea, and use some of these pieces. I basically did exactly what I did before with the frame...new color of paint...
to (sort of) match the apron I made and recipe cards I purchased,
Here is the frame turned recipe holder...ready for a recipe, and a chef.
I put a hanger on the back, but it could also rest on the counter on an iron plate holder.
