Princess: Fairy Bread

Tuesday, June 26, 2012 1 comment
I was googling ideas for easy things to serve at my princess dinner because I have a big girl job that really cuts into my play time on work nights.  I saw the recipe for these on all recipes, and according to the site it's pretty common in Australia.....I can't confirm that, but I can confirm these little twirls are yummy, and work night easy.  Basically, you butter a piece of bread (edges cut off, and I used promise spread), add a bunch of sprinkles....
Twirl, and slice into bit size pieces.  I put these on the decorative toothpicks I made and blogged about yesterday.  So.....toast....with sprinkles.  Anything and everything in life is better with sprinkles.  I can confirm that too.

Unicorn Pooh Cookies

I recently saw these cookies on Erin's Blog....uhh....if these didn't have my name all over them, I don't know what cookie does?!?!?  Erin and I both seem to have a similar since of humor, so it made me happy to find another idea to try out.  I made these for some teachers at my school who were administering the state test recently.  I mean, really, is there an age that unicorn pooh isn't the perfect gift for stressed out friends.  The cookies are pretty large b/c of the twisting, so it only makes 9-10 per batch.
Unicorn Pooh Recipe
1/2 c. butter (softened), 1/4 c. shortening, 1 c. sugar, 2 eggs, 1 tsp. vanilla, 2 1/2 c. flour, 1 tsp. baking powder, 1 tsp. salt, food coloring, sparkle gel, star sprinkles, colored dragees
Instructions:  In a bowl, cream butter, shortening, and  sugar. Add eggs, vanilla, flour, baking powder, and salt.
Bake at 400 for 8 minutes.

Divide up and color the dough.  I used the neon coloring kit, plus yellow (same as Erin).
You chill it for at least an hour, it's a soft dough, but forgiving.  I rolled out thin 'worms' of dough.'  I just took about a golf ball size piece of each color.
 Twist, and mound up.
While the cookies are baking, having the sprinkles ready b/c you will want to press them into the cookies as soon as they come out while they are soft enough to break through the top crust.
 Here they are baked up.
 Press in sprinkles.
Ice using the gel (you could make a powdered sugar/water glaze as well and add course sugar to make these a little sweeter).
As Erin mentioned, the icing doesn't harden, but I was still able to bag them up for delivery
...and yet, nobody I know that received these seemed surprised to find these in their boxes.  What does this say about me I wonder......but I won't wonder that long.

Chocolate Wands

I found this princess ice cube tray, and I think it was pretty much made for me.  I have so many plans for this little guy.  But for now, I made some chocolate wands.
The tray comes with it's own straws, but I just used some from a fast food restaurant so they can be disposed of.
I melted down some pink chocolate, let it harden, and....
These are actually in honor of Abby on Sesame street, it goes with a larger Sesame Street collection of treats I'll be blogging about on Monday.  :O)
So easy, and believe me, I'll get my money out of this little gal!!!  Wait....maybe I'll be spending all my money thinking of ways to use this tray.  It's a vicious, horribly...exciting way to live life.

Bippity Boppity Boo-Magic Wand Cookies

I have no doubt this has been done 8,000,467 times....today. Make that 8,000,468 now. My teammate and I decided to do a very small something for all the classroom teachers a few weeks back when our big round of state testing reared it's stressful head. Things were a little tense. Our theme this year at work is to Think Pink. There is an acronym for the word PINK, so we sort of went with that...PINK has consumed our year. We decided we wanted to make cookies (we=my teammate putting up with me, and then me going overboard on whatever she's tolerating). I've mentioned my work sort of has a sugar cookie 'thing.' We like them. I guess my teammate and I must have been in a fairy tale mood, because we decided to make magic wands (you can only get away with stuff like this when working in an elementary school). I don't believe in magic, but I'm a fan of a sparkley wand, a good Cinderella story, and the idea of Prince Charming is fun. :O) So....I pulled out my star cookie cutter and got to work.
I cut the cookies pretty thick so the sticks would slide in (about 1/4 inch?). I slide the sticks in as soon as the cookies exited the oven.

I added a little karo syrup to my icing so it would harden (about a T for every 3 c. of icing). Iced, and sprinkled for a little sparkle.

I then let them dry overnight before bagging and tagging them.
