Pooh Shower Book

Monday, April 08, 2013 No comments
My scrapbooking has definitely gone the way of the buffalo over the last few years, but a few months back my pal Amber and I sequestered ourselves to a local scrapbooking store and I was able to knock out this little book commemorating the shower I threw for my pal Regan, owner of my goddaughter, Micah.  A year and a half later I can 'remember when' with some pictures to remind me.  I blogged all the details over the shower here.  I decided to buy a little cardboard book from Michael's dollar section to put this one together.  I  tied one of the little honey stirrers onto the ring (I actually used two of the books-so $2+paper and doodad not bad, and really easy to put together, just cover the cardboard in photos and scrapbook paper.
Below is the guest sign in.  I bought an old Pooh book at a thrift store and out some pictures to frame for her nursery after decorating the shower with the photos....I used some more pages to decorate my book...
I added a little flip page here so I could keep all the 'stuff' from the honey bar contained to one spread and the book didn't get too thick....see....pull tab...
 ....two more pictures.
Another little pull tab on this page...
I just folded over a piece of paper, and glued one side down.
One of my favorite photos from the weekend....
Amber suggested punching a hole in the invite and adding it to the back after laminating it...love that idea!

Clarksvegas Baby Shower Weekend Extravaganza

Saturday, October 22, 2011 3 comments
The weekend of October 8th, I headed North towards Clarksville, TN.  My bff is having a baby.  It's her first.  It's a girl.  It's kinda a big deal.  I took the above shot the last full day I was there, and I love it.  I saw something similar online once.  I just opened up the blinds with the sun shining straight in, switched my camera to black and white, and snapped.  I heart it.
I've been blogging about the details of the shower this week, but on a personal note.  It was exciting.  Regan tried for a very long time to give us this reason to host a shower!  After 5 years of marriage, and her husbands 2nd year over seas in 3 years serving in the US Army, they succeeded where treatment, and medical care had failed, God took over.  She is 8 months along...and counting.  Her friend, Liz, who I've had the pleasure of meeting while visiting her as an adolescent in NY, and later at wedding showers, and wedding festivities was also able to make it, and she was a ginormous help getting the shower put together.
I went with a Pooh theme to match her nursery.  I drove down with my car loaded down, and finished up some grocery shopping, baking and creating on Friday (when I drove the second half after leaving right after work on Thursday).  Her Mom and Dad also came up from SC.  I heart them so much.  My relationship with Regan's whole family has been such a blessing in my life, such a hug from God.
We hung out with Regan's Clarksville crowd on Saturday and opened gifts.
 Da girls.
We spent a lot of the weekend in PJ's back at Regan and Dave's casa with the dogs.
We baked a pie, and I introduced Liz to the wonder that is Cherry Pull and Peel Twizzlers.
We spent a huge chunk of the weekend bordering, and decorating the nursery.
I took some photos on Sunday.  There are some 'stomach shots' I'll let Regan post....there is just something about popping someone else's bare belly on my blog....I'm not ready yet, but this photo reminds me of another moment...
I have one photo of Regan holding blocks to spell out her baby's name, and while she was cradling them under her belly (they aren't ready to reveal the name yet), Baby Girl started kicking and making the blocks move.  It was, by far, one of my favorite moments.  I got to feel baby hiccups, and lots of baby kicks, and this little being definitely stole a huge chunk of my heart, and wouldn't let me have it back when I left for the long drive home on Monday.
One month left of beautiful fall weather, and a few weeks after that I'm heading back up to hold that little nugget.  It makes me nostalgic about the past....all the things Regan and I have experienced in almost 25 years of friendship.  All the adventures, first, heartaches, and dreams fulfilled.  I can't even imagine 25 years from now where all the pieces will fit in this puzzle called life, but I know it'll be a-mazing.

Winnie the Pooh Baby Shower

My best friend decided to go with a Winnie the Pooh Nursery...vintage.  I'm not usually one to do character parties, but in this case....I adapted my philosophy and went to work on a shower to match the nursery, and thus, pieces from the shower have made a home IN the nursery as a secondary bonus.  I blogged about the invitations (above) I made a few months back.  I packaged each up inside empty honey bear jars (all sources linked to original post.  The process is all spelled out here
I love invitations, and I try to make them unique to set the tone, but I also LOVE the guest sign in, and try to do something that evokes a memory in years to come.  I made this wreath the guest all added honey combs to with messages for the family to cherish as it hangs on the nursery door in welcome (click on link for more details).
I divided up the food in two sections.  One was a yellow and brown themed honey dessert bar (more details on link).  I'll start with that first, dessert is usually where I like to start.  I bought a pooh cookie cutter from Ebay to top the cupcakes.
I used burlap, tree cookie stands (cut from trees being cut down a long time ago).  I filled the bale with crackers, honey in several flavors, cheeses, honey butter, rolls, desserts....
I bought some decorations we later put in the nursery.
I blogged about the honey scented bath favors here
I also made some bee shaped, chocolate dipped pretzels.  I blogged about the process here
Since it was lunch time, I also served pink (Piglet) punch, Eeyore Egg Salad Sandwiches (her choice of sandwich, click on link for more detailed post), and Tigger's Twisted Pasta.
I added pages from a book I found at a Thrift store from old Pooh story books to the various tables in these frames I sprayed dark brown.  They now hang in the nursery.
I'll post personal pictures tomorrow from the shower, and the weekend in Tennessee.

Winnie the Pooh: Honey Bar

When Regan told me she wanted to do a Pooh themed nursery, I knew I wanted to go with the yellows and browns for the dessert portion of the shower.  I decided to go with a honey themed lay out.
I found some comb shaped baskets, I later gave her to store things from the changing table in.
Regan and her husband LOVE cheese and crackers, so I loaded up a tree cookie (think hundred acre woods) and some accompanying goodies, including honey butter, which I made using a cup of promise butter, mixed with a cup of honey.  Yum.
I got three different flavored honeys to try (lemon, comb (honey in it's purest form), and clover sticks.  Guest drizzled this on their crackers, and...
 ...rolls...
I found this little bee tin (she admired months ago at an antique store), added some wooden letters, and a bear shaped jar (same antique store, I sprayed the top brown, and it's in the baby's room now as well, but at the shower it held some daisies and mums).
I also made some honey comb shaped cupcakes, and punched out a pooh short bread cookie, using a cookie cutter I bought on Ebay from someone in Japan....I was serious about this.  I had seen a cupcake like this online.  Again, I served these on tree cookies.
I also had the favors I made (honey scent bath products I blogged about here), and....
Little honey jars filled with bee themed pretzels I made, and blogged about here
