B to the Third Power

This Sunday I helped my cousin, Brian celebrate his 18th Birthday. We went Bowling and out to eat. Five of you had birthdays over the break....I'm worn out just thinking about it, so I'm only reporting on the official blog regarding 1/5th of the celebrations that took place over this long weekend, but happy birthday to you if you are reading this and too had a celebration this break. This blog was brought to you by the letter "B."

Nothing says "the holidays" like time with gal pals, a great hockey fight, and dollar hot dog night at a Star's game. Stars won tonight against Toronto Leafs 3-1.

Pedicures to Pies

You are getting a play by play of my day by day right now....I'm having fun with projects. Today Holly, Lydia and I went and got pedicures and then headed to a tea room for lunch, you know any day that starts with a pedicure has to be a good one :O). The rest of the day I finished up a few mini projects. A few days ago I baked some leaf shaped cookies to bag up for a fun table decorations, it's a friend's recipe I've been wanting to try out (I've tried it once, but I wanted to try it again.) I baked an apple pie and played around with little apple cookie cutters, and then I marked another thing off of my 101 To Do List-make a holiday arrangments, they are just baby arrangments, but I made some candle holders for my table this year.

If I were twenty years younger....

Mavericks VS Toronto

Posting Frenzy

One of my goals over my holiday break is to post as much as possible, just to make things a little more lively around here. I'm finally completely well, which is great, and I have a three day break, and I didn't even bring home THAT much work which means I can't work even if I wanted to (or rather, felt like I should be working). I had my flu shot this week to hopefully prevent future illnesses (here's hoping) and I have the best little four legged nurse in town, she doesn't cure my illness, but she likes to cuddle when I don't feel well and go to bed before the sun....so here's my latest Lilly picture, I was loving her leg position when I captured her picture here. Silly puppy.

Bob Beamon

To make a long story short (which is not something I do very often). Olympic Gold Medalist Bob Beamon came to my school today for a national Diabetes campaign. It was a big deal, and it will be on the local news channels and local newspapers as well as National news stations and papers (USA Today is one of the newspapers I know was there, but there were at least 20 different media outlets). For those of you who don't know (myself included until recently) he holds the record at the Olympic games for jumping 29 feet 2.5 inches in the long jump. Just seeing the visual of how far that is was pretty incredible. Anyway, to my knowledge I've never met any other Olympic Gold Medalist, so.....I just thought I'd share. As for pictures, I don't think I can legally take or share those, so you'll just have to pick up a paper. The kids were super cute though, he was talking about the 'highs' and 'lows' of his life and the low was his Diabetes diagnosis and treatment and he was discussing the nutrition aspect of leading a healthy life and he asked the kids what sort of things they should be having for meals and one little Kindergartener without missing a beat said, "Steak and Sandwiches"....maybe you had to be there, but since I was, it made me smile.

Warm Fuzzy of the Week

The age old question in schools (regardless of the grade) is-"What do you want to be when you grow up?" It's talked about, written about, drawn, played out in centers-you name it, they have done it (and yet so many of us are still so confused as adults about what we want to be when we grow up ;o)). Anyway, this week it seems to be popping up in my face a little bit more than usual. A third grader wrote about wanted to be an alien when he grew up in one of the small groups, and today as I was walked down the halls I saw a chart where the Pre-K teacher had scribed each students response, and then they wrote their name next to it....and here were a few of my favorites:
-A Princess
-A Baseball
-A Power Ranger
-Big, Big, Big, Big
-A Mermaid
-A Sleeping Beauty
-A Strong Doctor
-Barbie

Stock in Kleenex

If I knew how long I was going to be congested, I would have invested in kleenex. I'm recovering from the 'stuff' that is going around...so---->no blogging for the last week or so. The highlights of my last week that didn't involve sleeping or popping cold pills included a huge project at work that will end in May (h-e-l-p), the start of Saturday school, and lots of birthday parties and a baby shower. The birthdays were this past weekend (Maggie and Kelly), November is full of birthdays, I have 9 good pals celebrating (that I can think of right now, I won't name them in case I'm forgetting yours :O). I'll attach one of the two cakes that MADE it onto a table this weekend with people celebrating the big events. I had a typical Christy Cooking Disaster: two cake mixes later and four pans in the oven (the first two even LOOKED funny and I double checked before making the second, but still overlooked the fact that-I forgot the eggs, needless to say, it was a long night.
