Fabric Tie Curtains

Monday, January 16, 2017 No comments
This was a super easy project I put together for my craft room.  It was before the wall paint etc....better pictures to come, but....I grabbed about 10 fat quarters when they were on sale for 78 cents at JoAnnes
I cut them into 1 1/2 inch strips and then just tied them to a dowel rod style curtain rod that was already in the room that I was turning into my craft room.  It doesn't get any easier than this, and is a fun pop of colors above the window.

College Quilt in the Works

I recently cleaned out my closet and discovered I never need to buy another college shirt ever.  I decided to take some of the ones from my college years and turn them into a quilt since they had some meaning.  Of course, after I was finished, I found more, but....I guess there will be another project someday.  Anyway.  I found a pre-sized quilting square....
I took all those old shirts and went ahead and cut out squares.  (I'll eventually do it with my work shirts-which are in this picture).  I then just used a bunch of different yellows and greens I cut into 2 inch strips (Sic' Em!) to frame each square, and then the gals at the retreat convinced me to add a darker green to frame those and I ended up loving the look.  Nothing fancy, but I just didn't want to get rid of my 'memories', but I also didn't want to keep stacks of shirts.    I'm going to find someone to quilt this (I think) with some college slogans etc from my alma mater.  I'll post the finished project later.

Heart Cross Stitch Shirt

I did a post tape for GMT recently with some embroidery projects.  It should be airing sometime in the next week or so, but....here's a sneak peak.  I made this heart shirt with a few simple steps.  I found the original tutorial with a free print out for a pattern to follow at uber.  I printed one out and taped it to a shirt (you could also hoop it).
Another idea,  if you want your stitches to be really stable is adding a stablizer to your hopped set up.  I used red embroidery thread (all six strings b/c I really wanted it to pop) and then I  started created cross stitches following the pattern from corner to corner.
When I was finished, I tied off my thread and then to get the paper off the shirt I sprayed it with water so the paper would become flimsy and peel right off.
Less than 3 dollars-not too shabby.  You know how when you buy clothes and they have little 'inspection number' stickers on them.  Most of mine come with personalized drool and a handful of dog hair.
