Halloween: Skeleton: Skull-Soap-On-A-Rope

Thursday, October 13, 2011 2 comments
I saw this idea last year at Dollarstorecrafts and I knew I had to try it out.  I had already purchased the ice molds (they have them again this year, including different shapes like the pumpkin). I went a little different route.  I discovered awhile ago that you don't actually have to buy those blocks of soap to make soap.  I made these recycled soap molds for my bathroom using extra soaps I had from hotel visits.   So...the beauty of this project is it literally just cost me the dollar I spent for the mold.  The soap was sort of hard, usually you can just throw it in a pan with a little water, heat, stir, melt, pour.  This time, I set the hotel soaps in a dish of water overnight so it was soft.  I pour out the extra water.
The soap was really pliable, so I pushed it into the molds.
I tied some yarn, and pushed the knots down into the skulls, and covered it with more soap.
I let it dry...and then....ta da-skull-soap-on-a-rope for my little friends this Halloween.

Halloween: Skeleton: Donuts

I put together this quick little breakfast for some of my friends under three feet this fall season.  I saw this idea last year here at Jean's Crafty Corner.
I grabbed and bagged up some powdered donuts for the ribs, and then I just drew the skeleton body parts.  Printed.  Cut.  Tabbed.  Passed out.  Easy, and cute.  :O)
Here's the printable, just call me Picasso.  Or not.

Halloween: Skeleton: Chocolate Cookies

I saw the idea for this design at Family Fun, but I found the recipe at Taste of Home.  They really are delicious.  I used a canned icing and a ziplock bag to pipe on the design (as opposed to the powder sugar/water mix listed on the site).
I used Wilton's gingerbread, and cat cookie cutter, and this made about 20 cookies.

Ingredients for Chocolate Cookies:
1 c. butter, softened, 1 c. sugar, 1/2 c. packed brown sugar, 1 egg, 1 t. vanilla, 2 3/4 c. flour, 1/2 c. cocoa, 1 t. baking soda
Instructions:
Cream butter, sugar until light and fluffy.  Add egg, vanilla, and gradually add flour, cocoa, and soda.
Refrigerate for 2 hours.
Roll and cut on floured surface.
Bake at 375 for 8 minutes.

Halloween: Skeleton: Skeleton Cupcakes

I saw these cute cupcakes at Good Housekeeping last year, and I had to try them out.  I simplified it a bit, but basically-white cupcake, canned frosting, three chocolate coated pretzels, one large marshmallow, a stick, and a wilton writing pen to create the face (this could also be done with melted chocolate).
Instead of melting more chocolate to hold the ribs in place, I used marshmallows.   Genious, I know...I'm off to wait for a phone call from mensa...and to write out my list for Santa.
