Silver Wreath

 I'm taking a bunch of wreaths to GMT today, but this is the wreath I'm taking....and then brining home to hang.  Actually, they had a very similar wreath at Sam's, but....by the time I went to get it, it was gone.  I hardly ever 'buy' a wreath, so you know I like it if I went to purchase instead of make the wreath.  I was bummed, but then, when they asked me to come share some wreaths, I thought, hey, I can make that wreath I didn't get!

 I switch my outside decor back and forth, but this year, it's back to silvers and whites, so....it goes perfectly with the rest of the decor outside.

It was 36 dollars at Sams, but I was able to make it for less than 20.  I bought ornaments at the dollar tree, and a few at the craft store on major discount.  I bought a little 'church' ornament for $2 something at Walmart, and some bottle brush tress (again, half off-about $3.50? at Hobby Lobby).  I got a foam wreath at the dollartree, and then some tinsel.  The tinsel is the only thing even remotely pricey.  They have a ton of different colors, but I wanted this particular garland from Walmart, which cost about 5 dollars. Normally, I'd use a coupon at the craft store, but....it was a lot of tinsel.  You need about 18 yards to wrap a dollar tree size wreath.  A bigger wreath, maybe grab two of these.  I hot glued it all on, and now....once it has it's television debut, I'm ready for Christmas, well, my door is ready.  I've got a lot of projects left to do!

Rustic Wreath

 I made this wreath to take with me to GMT on Monday.  I'll post a link to the segment on facebook, but in the meantime, here's a visual step by step.

 I bought a few picks with rusty bell, and then I used my 'stone' Krylon to make these silver bells 'rusty'.  I've tried a bunch of other techniques, and this is, by far, the most effective.

 I bought some larger picks with evergreen stems, and cut them apart.  I literally just poke and bend them into the wreath.  You can dab a little hot glue on the stem, but they stay really well regardless.  Please notice my helpers foot in the above photograph.

 I also wanted a large candy cane, but all I could find were sparkly canes, so I took some fabric I had and hot glued it over that glitter.

For less than 15 dollars, I have another new wreath.

White Wreath

I'm headed to GMT on Monday with some simple wreath ideas.  I'm trying to pull out some simple ideas. I saw this idea originally on pinterest.  Wreaths are one of the rare crafts where you can almost always save a ton of money b/c even at a discount, they cost a lot more than their parts.  This wreath cost me 9 dollars to make total, and it was really simple.

 I bought some loopy yarn (it was an 18 yard skein and it was enough to cover my wreath with some left over-$5 on sale).  I bought a foam wreath at the dollar store, and some bottle brush trees at Joann.  Everything was on sale.

 I tied it to the foam wreath, but you could also use push pins or straight pins to hold it in place.  Then I just wrapped around....and around...and around and tied it off at the end too.

Last up I glued on my bottle brush trees.  And....it's ready.  It looks like a little snowy field with trees.

Faux Weaving Wall Hanging

About a year ago, I saw a 'faux weaving' craft via TheEverCo and it's been on my to do list for awhile.  I adjusted just a few things b/c I decided to make this a door hanging for my spring door, BUT the gist in the same.  

First, I grabbed a bunch of yarn at a thrift store.  They usually have these for just pennies b/c they are typically old yarn and not full skeins, which worked fine for me!
I took a foam board from the dollar store and cut it down to the size rectangle I wanted (in half) and I wrapped the top half with the textured white yarn.  Nothing fancy, just glued a few pieces down and then wrapped, wrapped, wrapped.
For the bottom half I made tassels and pompoms.  For the tassels I took a spiral notebook and wrapped it around about 20 times.

 I pulled it off, and folded it in half.

 I tied it a few times at the top, but it didn't have to be perfect b/c this part will be covered up.

 Then I snipped the bottom loops and evened them out.

 I glued these side by side to the bottom half off the board.

 And overlapped the second (and third) row just enough to cover the tops.

 Once I had the tassels glued down, I did covered the side of the board with the white yard as well so the raw edge wasn't showing.

 Next up, I made some pom poms.  I wrapped these about 100 times around my hand, tied it in the middle....

 ...then I snipped both sides and (again) evened them up.

 Then I glued these down as well.

Instead of the metal pole from the original post, I used a dowel rod from the craft store I cut down and just sprayed it, and then I found a metal 'hello' at Joann and sprayed and glued it down too.  

St. Patrick's Day Shamrock

I have been obsessing over all the pink/brown/orange/cream things going around the net these days.  So, I had an extra Shamrock from a GMT segment and decided to use up some of the 'ends' of yarn I keep in storage for projects just like this.  

Joann's had several different options for shamrocks, some unfinished, and this chalkboard shamrock, but the point is, I just needed the shape.

 I was using six different yarns, and the board is 12 inches tall, so I measured and drew off 2 inch lines using a silver sharpie.

 I glued some yarn around the bottom since it would be hard to wrap it around this area.

 Then I started wrapping.  I added a little glue as I went to keep the yarn in place.

 For the weird edges, I laid piece of yarn down and glued it flat, then wrapped and glued it around the edge.

I started at the top of the next line for each color and worked my way down just to keep things even.  

 In progress.

 Again, as I reached weird edge, I'd start there and wrap and glue, and then cover that up as I continued to wrap.  The bag doesn't look as good as the front.  If I were hanging this on my door, I'd cover the back with one piece of fabric, but this is going flush against a wall, so I didn't worry about that for this project.

Overall, I'm pleased with how it turned out and want to add some bunting etc.

St Patrick's Day Wreath

I'm working on a few super easy St Patrick's Day crafts.   I'll post the video tomorrow on Facebook. I've seen a lot of door decorations covered in moss, and discovered sheets of self adhesive moss recently at the craft store (I've found it at both Joann and Hobby Lobby-use a coupon).  I also grabbed this unfinished shamrock at Joann.  They also had some chalkboard shamrocks I bought as well.  Basically, I just wanted the shape.  

 I painted the edges green, and then I just started tracking out the shamrock shape on the back of the moss.

 Peel and stick.

 I did it in sections to control it a bit as it stuck down.

 I sprayed a letter gold and added a bow and it's ready to welcome guest.

Pom Pom Fall Wreath

I recently made this wreath for my friend.  I have about 17 million extra wreaths at my house, so when I was thinking about making some fall décor, I called up my pal Kelly and asked her if she would use this on her door.  I've been really into pom poms lately, so....which not make a million of them, tie them to a wire wreath, and call it a project?  When we chatted, she mentioned interchangeable decorations, and so I made some vintage cats and leaves and added clothes pins to the back so they can be attached....

 It really was a super easy project, it just took some time to make all those pom poms, but....that's what tv is for, right?  I wrapped and vegged.  I used this brand and a color called burnt pumpkin.  It did end up taking two rolls of it.  I bought it at Hobby Lobby (not sure if they sell it everywhere, but....just to save on searching).

 I just used some super cheap felt and cut out some leaf shapes and cats and added some decorations.  I hot glued the clothes pins and then put an extra square of felt across the back to secure them further.

 I really think I'm going to make a few more of these for different seasons b/c I'm a fan!

Football Wreath

I saw a wreath like this via pinterest I'm planning to bring..  The original watermark is from a website called mamadish, but the link is broken (I like to give credit where credit is due, but I don't like to lead people to hackers, so.....).  I adjusted the tutorial a bit....

I cut 1 1/2 inch strips of fabric and glued them around a Dollar Tree wreath with some hot glue.  It took me about four strips, which was perfect.  

 Once it was wrapped...

 I used some of this yarn (a dollar from Hobby Lobby) and wrapped it randomly (both colors) around the wreath to give it....some pizazz?  Depth?  Character?  You pick.

 Then I cut strips of felt about 1 1/2 inch and I fringed it to about 1/4 inch.  Then I rolled it and gued the bottom....this becomes your pom poms.

 I cut out little pennants and used some 'Thickers' (thick letter stickers from Hobby Lobby I got for half off) to spell out my team's name.  You could also use your Cricut or painted wood letters.

 I glued these on to some string.  I sandwiched the back to hold it secure.

I glued all these pieces on to the wreath along with a wooden football I got from Hobby Lobby for less than a buck.  Again, you could make these with felt, but I took the easy route.
